Photo of a bookcase set into a recess behind the bed in Virginia Woolf’s bedroom. This ‘shelfie’ was taken at Monk’s House (National Trust), Virginia and Leonard Woolf’s home in the village of Rodmell, near Lewes in East Sussex, which they purchased in 1919.

Now a global literary icon, Virginia Woolf drowned herself in the nearby River Ouse in 1941 and her husband died at Monk’s House in 1969.
