The Art Deco entrance hall at Eltham Palace (English Heritage) in southeast London dates from the 1930s and has the feel of an ocean-going liner.
The rug (a copy, the original is in the Victoria & Albert Museum) was designed by Marion Dorn, who also produced moquette designs to cover the seats of London’s buses and underground trains.
